As marathon training wont apply to many of you sane people I'll keep this short. But some of you may also plan to run the full marathon as one of Your Life Experiences, so here you go:
6 MONTHS > 3 WEEKS:
I've just finished my last training run today, a 2 hour run...I think the longest I've ever run. The marathon is now only 1 week away, May 11, and the usual recommended "6 month" training was squeezed into 2 weeks, as the last week of my "training" will be to relax, eat well, & sleep :) The toughest part !? (Photo above after last year's 10km race).
LIFE EXPERIENCE:
I've put my foot into this so to speak so I WILL be entering and doing the best I can for my 1st ever full marathon, 42km. But my 2nd marathon I WILL train for at least 3 months ! Then I can provide real useful tips for those of you who also plan to run the full marathon as one of Your Life Experiences as I wrote in chapter 7.
HITTING THE WALL:
From 30min runs I've increased it to 2 hours in just under 2 weeks, and I'm happy with my speed. I feel good, so fitness isn't an issue, it's just the chapping and leg/calf muscles that will cop it once I hit the 30km or 35km mark ... what they call "hitting the wall" in marathon-language, so I'm "curious" what will happen to me then :) If I continue to run the same speed as I'm doing for 2hours, I will run it in 3hr33min :) ... but I am dead certain that chaos will hit at the 35m mark and then its up to the Gods and my will power ... or stupidness perhaps :)
