Email Experiment

We ALL use email, most of us DAILY, and it chews TIME in our lives .. for better or worse.

Here's 3 Q's to get the ball rolling:
Q1) Is it better to use ONE email address (with filters), or MULTIPLE email addresses (depending on purpose or mindset) and WHY ?
Q2) How much TIME should be spent on email ? When and Why ?
Q3) How do you block out or manage your email DISTRACTION ?

2008 has seen many changes that have affected our email use. For example: gmail allowing multiple accounts & gmail's connection to blogger.com, the iPhone & ez email syncing with gmail, facebook, youtube, and what I call the issue of "google-nonymous" and "to be or not to be ... seen" ?

Will EMAIL be your Email-Enemy or Email-Energy for greater productivity and fun ?
Everything has it's PROS & CONS, so just like LIFESTYLE, there is NO perfect solution for everyone, but there is a great solution for YOU. Learning about other peoples' use can inspire so I hope this helps you find your new ideal solution in this ever changing world.

Marketing Machines

Find your Marketing-Machine.

All authors, speakers, inventors, game-creators, bloggers, singers, painters, advisors and everyone else that has something to offer to others need to SELL it to earn $$ ! Sounds obvious, but WHO ?
Think about this:

# These people (me included) are CREATORS and should keep on creating value for others ! And LOVE doing it !

# Its NOT their CORE COMPETETENCY so they should NOT "focus" on marketing/selling !

# Most spend far more time, energy, & money on marketing than on their STRENGTHS !

SOLUTION?
# They should OUTSOURCE !
(Obviously some elements must or should be done by you ... but outsource everything else you're not an expert on or dont LOVE doing).
BOTTOMLINE: Find your "one-stop-shop" MARKETING-MACHINE !

OK so that sounds great, but WHO & HOW ?
I feel they must fill these key criteria:

# An organisation or agent which has marketing SYSTEMS in place for MANY to leverage from and save you the tedious learning curve !

# MARKETING "is" their CORE COMPETETENCY !
Ie. they know their stuff and are bloody good at it !

# They provide their SERVICE on a fair % commission basis for those they have chosen to represent.

The Power of Simplicity !

"3S Power" or The Power of Simplicity, Speed, Smartness ... are the think-tools needed for our new world.
Starting a new business is tough for some while dead simple for others. There's no need to overcloud your mind or get bogged down with complicated thoughts, only to overlook the obvious, or give up all together; think simple. Now here's a good excuse to kiss on the job! KISS - Keep It Simple & Speedy:
seed > plant > tree = idea > project > business

Everyone has an idea in the shower, but its only those who get out of the shower, dry off and start writing out their idea quickly in simple form that can make it happen.

Strike while the iron's hot! You can write out your 1 page (or 10 max) in an hour just by letting your mind flow. Then like any hot iron, you need to let it cool off so you can use it. Some of your hot irons (ideas) will turn out to be flops after you sleep on it, but some you can then start to expand into a project growing in detail over days intensively, or weeks slowly. I guarantee you will fill all the time you allocate to it so it's up to you.

Again, some of your projects may be thrown in the trash, some put on the back burner, while others may grow into a business. This may be new business for the company you are working for or your own business.

Just as you need to stay focused on synergetic projects, you also have to stay focused (totally immersed) when "cooking" ideas & projects so make sure you block out ALL interuptions!

The average American is apparently interupted 8 times/day for an average of 5 min each time by dropin visitors (and I count sudden CALLS as dropin visitors too! Just because you cant "see" them doesnt mean it's not an interuption). Likewise checking irrelevant SMS or EMAILS are also interuptions which YOU cause yourself.

So dont get distracted, overwhelmed, and stressed out by INTERUPTIONS (sms, emails, calls, visitors), GUARD your GOLDen time! This can be any time during the day when your mind works best, totally up to you. For me it's mornings. My mind is on turbo-power in the mornings so I dont let ANY interuptions sneak in while my mind is "cooking". The iron would cool-off too early and wouldn't turn out quality. It would be like trying to bake a cake or pizza while taking it out of the oven so many times, not even your dog would eat it!

Your interuptions of 8x/day x 5min = 40min/day x 5 days = 3hrs/week or 9 awake days/year! Now lets say you're interupted only half this time, that's still almost 1 full work-WEEK lost!

So don't let anyone interupt you "KISS"ing, and use that bonus week for something more important :)
